Yan
Pevzner was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. He
began playing the piano at the tender age of four. In 1991,
after graduating high school, Yan moved to Paris, France.
While living in Paris, Yan studied at the Aubervilliers
National Conservatory, where he majored jazz and classical
piano.
Upon
completing the necessary curriculums at Aubervilliers, Yan
then decided to move to New York to further his craft as
a jazz musician. While in New York City, he attended New
York University, where he studied jazz performance and composition
with Dr. Tom Boras, Michael Abene, Frank Foster, George
Garzone and Tony Moreno and graduated with a master’s
degree in 2001.
Yan
is an Alumnus of the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program, the
Jazz Aspen Snowmass, Steans Institute for Young Artists
and Mancini Institute. Performances include the Bagnlieu
Blue jazz festival in France, IAJE Conference 2001 &
2002, Ravinia festival, Jazz at Lincoln Center Grand Opening
Festival, Cactus Jazz and Blues festival. Additionally,
Yan has performed in various venues such as the Kennedy
Center, Hollywood Bowl, Jazz at Lincoln Center Rose Hall,
Walt Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavillion, Birdland,
BB King Blues Club, Sweet Rhythms, Sotheby's jazz series,
Getty Museum, Regattabar, Jazz Corner and Paramount Studios.
Yan
consistently works and currently records with his trio,
which consists of bassist, Martin Wind and drummer, Tony
Moreno. Their internationally critically acclaimed CD State
of Mind was released in the spring of 2003. In
addition to performing with his trio Yan plays with a variety
of musicians in New York City. He also teaches jazz and
classical piano, history of jazz, as well as instrumental
ensemble at the State University of New York -- Westchester
Community College. |
